The 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Event - 13.4 and 13.5

80 years ago this June, Allied forces undertook the largest amphibious operation in military history. Totalling nearly 7,000 ships and vessels of all types, a massive invasion fleet drawing from the naval forces of eight nations transported thousands of troops in a head-on assault on Fortress Europe. In honor of this incredible military operation, three new operations are coming to World of Warships in a new event battle type!

13.4 D-Day Event [UTC]

Description

Each operation makes up a part of our own retelling of the D-Day events. These scenarios will last two weeks each, include battleships, cruisers, and destroyers of tiers V-VII, and will accommodate up to 6 players in a division. Don't have a suitable ship? We have you covered - rental ships will be available to all players for these operations.

Unlike previous thematic operations, with several difficulty options to choose from, the D-Day operations will only have a single level, and completing the primary objective will not be the hardest part. However, we've brought back stars for completing additional missions for the duration of D-Day event. These missions will grant you extra stars and increase the overall difficulty of the operation.

Earning these extra stars will enable quick progression through a special rewards track in the Port. There are three parts to the reward track with each one unlocking as each new operation becomes available. The rewards for all three parts of the main track include new content like historical Commanders Robert Jaujard and William Tennant, as well as new permanent camouflages "Force of Liberation" and "Invasion Stripes" for Jervis and Baltimore. Additionally, finishing each part of the track in good order will unlock extra levels and rewards - "More Signals" and new "D-Day" containers. D-Day containers are unique to this event and may even drop a variety of premium vessels, including a few brand-new ones! Be sure to check out the container contents below.

Intelligence

Let's talk about some new mechanics for these Operations—Classified Documents.

For the D-Day event, you'll be able to set up your ship for the conditions of a particular battle and make her more effective against specific types of enemies by selecting specific Classified Documents. Each Classified Document comes in three secrecy levels—Confidential, Secret, and Top Secret—and when you receive a Document with a higher secrecy level, it replaces the lower one that precedes it. Classified Documents of higher secrecy levels keep the features of the previous tier while also granting you additional bonuses. These bonuses will only influence how your ship interacts with certain enemy ships and structures and won't directly affect your teammates. They will have to bring their own Classified Documents into battle.

You can select up to three Classified Documents that are most suitable for your playstyle and the challenges you'll face in each Operation. There are 12 types of Classified Documents to choose from—six for the Allies and six for the Axis. You can decide which ones to take into each battle before it starts or during the first 30 seconds of battle. If you don't choose within the allotted time, the game automatically selects suitable ones from those available to you.

As soon as the D-Day event starts, you'll receive two random Classified Documents—one for the Allies and one for the Axis. The Allied Document can be used immediately in the first Operation, and any Axis Documents will come in handy in the second Operation. Participate in Operations, earn Stars, and move through the reward track to obtain Intelligence Folders that provide Classified Documents. You can receive Classified Documents of any secrecy level even if you don't have the base Confidential-level Document of each type; however, once you collect all Confidential-level Classified Documents, you're guaranteed to receive only higher-level Documents.

80 Years Since D-Day Flag

This year, we dedicated our Longest Night of the Museums event to the ships involved in the Allied landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944. All of them were turned into museums that naval history lovers can visit and admire.

Sword of Freedom Patch

Painters, designers, and actors—creative thinking was the prerequisite for joining the famous Ghost Army. The top-secret U.S. unit misled the enemy about Allied troop movements and plans by deploying fake tanks, phony aircraft, and staging shortly before D-Day. They continued to conduct their activities to sow confusion in enemy intelligence until the end of the war.

Momentous Day Patch

Masters of sabotage, the French Resistance fighters aided the Normandy Landings by working to incapacitate the enemy's infrastructure. They cut telephone cables and destroyed strategically important railroads in an effort to cut off Normandy in the days before D-Day.

Commonwealth Rockfish Patch

Often referred to as "the beginning of the end of World War II," D-Day is the largest amphibious operation that has ever been executed. The landings began in the early morning hours of June 6, 1944, when the first shots were fired by Allied armada ships. Two of them, HMS Belfast and USS Texas, have been preserved and turned into museum ships.

  • Lastly, we're excited to announce that we are adding a new port into the game for this event. During the D-day event, you'll be able to access the new Port by clicking the D-Day banner in Port or by selecting the D-Day battle type. Your previous Port in the Port selection window will not be affected by this change and you can easily return to it at any time.
