A fast battleship, originally designed and laid down in France in the second half of the 1930s. France's swift defeat in 1940 gave Germany the opportunity to seize the ships that were under construction at the French shipyards and commission them into the Kriegsmarine. One such ship could have been a Richelieu-class battleship whose armament would have been replaced with German artillery systems.
