Inage of destroyer USS Johnston

flag warship USS Johnston: Tier IX American Premium Destroyer 1942

The USS Johnston was a sizable, fast, and heavily armed destroyer. As World War II began, naval armament limitation treaties became obsolete. This resulted in the construction of new ships with greater displacements, enabling considerable enhancements in various design aspects, especially in air defense capabilities.

Key Features

  • Main Battery:
    • Johnston boasts a main battery of five 127mm guns.
    • These guns have a unique burst fire mode and can fire SAP shells.
    • In short engagements with enemy destroyers, her combination of firepower and concealment makes her extremely deadly.
    • Captains should aim to land their first shots effectively, especially considering her typically challenging ballistics.
  • Torpedoes:
    • Johnston carries a load of ten torpedoes.
    • These torpedoes have characteristics similar to those of the Gearing, and they can reach extreme range.
    • However, the reload time is quite long.
  • Consumables:
    • Johnston’s consumables include Engine Boost and Defensive AA Fire.
    • These are consistent with other USN destroyers and occupy the same slot.

Gameplay

  • Close-Range Combat:
    • Johnston excels in close-quarters combat with enemy destroyers.
    • Her burst fire mode and SAP shells make her lethal in short engagements.
    • Captains must focus on precise aiming to maximize damage output.
    • Using her normal firing mode to adjust aim beforehand is advisable.
  • Versatility:
    • Johnston’s American Smoke Generator provides long-duration smoke cover.
    • She can engage larger targets from safety using her long-range torpedoes.
    • However, caution is necessary when facing enemy Surveillance Radar.

  1. Finally something looks like a good Tier IX premium ship. It'll be most likely only doubloons though. Other varriants are research bereau or steel

    1. No, There is Coal resource aswell. And we didn't get any new Coal ship for a while or lack of them a lot.
Tier 9 is common tier for Coal ships.
So, there was never actually doubloon-only premium ships, exept bundles but those ships also come in game for other resources anyway.
