Anchorage Tier VIII American Heavy Cruiser 1940

History:
In mid-1940, the U.S. Navy issued an order for the construction of a series of Baltimore-class heavy cruisers, which became the standard ships of this type in the U.S. Navy during World War II. At the same time, the General Board of the U.S. Navy assigned the Bureau of Ships the task of developing a design for a completely new heavy cruiser with improved armor, a greater number of main battery guns, and enhanced speed.
Prepared in September 1940, the design, code-named CA-A, which featured reinforced armor and could theoretically achieve speeds of up to 34 knots—was not much bigger than Baltimore in terms of displacement. Both ships carried nine main battery guns. The CA-C design, presented in March 1941, which fulfilled all the requirements of the General Board, was close in dimensions to the already ordered Alaska-class large cruisers. A balance was found in the preliminary design, code-named CA-B, with a displacement of 17,000 tons and speed of 33 knots, she had twelve 203 mm guns placed in four turrets.
