(Recon009 on NA) Richard Neeley and Family Service to the US Armed Forces
This is the story of one of the WGB community members, Richard Neely, AKA UID Recon009 on NA."I myself, served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1990 - 1995, I have taken part in many Color Guards for such events as athletic meetings for the state of Pennsylvania, I have also been involved for Toys For Tots during my service years.
Although I have never left the country, and participated in any combat, which leaves in my view, as not qualifying as a Veteran, but I am proud to have served this country, the USA.
More importantly then my own service, was the service of a few relatives of mine:
The first was my Great Grandfather Archie Campbell Shull who wasn't in the Navy but worked for the Navy as a sail maker at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, but helped to solve the Navy's problems with the life rafts not holding air. He came up with the solution on how to fix the valving so it didn't leak after inflation saving the lives of servicemen.
The second family member is my Great Uncle Gene Neeley (In the Header image) who served in the US Army during WWII. Uncle Gene was recently awarded the French Legion of Honor for his service in Southern France during Operation Dragoon in 1944.
This is the highest distinction France can bestow. He is 94 years old and volunteers with Honor Flight. Recently he and another WWII vet from Illinois had flown to Normandy, France to take part in the 75th Anniversary of D-Day "
