Semper Fidelis

On November 10, 1775, the United States Continental Congress passed a resolution to construct the Continental Marines -- an infantry force with a mission focused on attacking/defending navy personnel. On defence, they acted as onboard security for a captain and his crew; while on defense they acted as sharpshooters targeting enemy officers and crew. Although disbanded in 1783 as part of the United States' post-Revolutionary wind down, the force would be reborn as the United States Marine Corps on July 11, 1798.

The first major act of the Marines was a series of amphibious attacks from the USS Constitution against French and Spanish shore forces during the Quasi-War. This joint cooperation with the US Navy would set the stage of the historical relationship to come. The United States Marine Corps fights on to this day across land, air, and sea.
