The Yorktown-class ships entered service between 1937 and 1941 as the first mass-produced aircraft carriers of special construction in the U.S. Navy. They were designed with the limitations of international naval armament agreements in mind, but despite this, the American designers skillfully crafted these 20,000-ton aircraft carriers to be swift, spacious, and well-equipped. During the initial year of the war in the Pacific, ships of the Yorktown class, along with the Lexington-class carriers, constituted the primary strike force of the U.S. Navy.

  • Researchable Attack Aircraft parameters were changed:
    • Aircraft preparation time increased: 105 to 115s.
  • Researchable Bomber parameters were changed:
    • Aircraft preparation time increased: 125 to 134s.
 

Key Features of Yorktown

  • Yorktown has lesser attacking potential but can provide more utility with her new tools. Yorktown has access to one standard squadron (torpedo bombers) and two tactical squadrons (attack aircraft and dive bombers) with jet-assisted take-off. 
  • The torpedo bombers need less time to reach the optimal spread when dropping torpedoes compared to other carriers and, especially, other American carriers. While a single torpedo has a relatively low damage, it is compensated by the high number of torpedoes and their above-average speed. 
  • The attack aircraft uses HE-rockets with high penetration and fire chance but the number of rockets per payload is relatively low. As for the dive bombers, they have a relatively low penetration and fire chance, but there are numerous bombs per payload. 
  • The tactical squadrons can provide cover for their allies using the Smoke Curtain Generator consumable that was recently introduced in Concealed Maneuvers. 
  • Additionally, Yorktown can call for a Patrol Fighter that arrives much faster, compared to most carriers, however, its spotting range is relatively low, similar to Bearn's Fighter. As a result, these fighters take more of a defensive and interceptive role.

The smoke curtain generator consumable is attached to the tactical attack aircraft armament. "Smoke Curtain Generator" works the same as with regular ships.
The regular attack aircraft will be replaced by tactical ones which will help Yorktown to use Smoke Curtain Generator more effectively. Tactical attack aircraft are equipped with boosters and consist of only one attack flight, and they do not return to the aircraft carrier.
