History:
In 1921, engineer Ferdinando Cassone presented the idea of a battlecruiser with eight 457-mm guns and a speed of 35-40 knots. This ship was the largest ever designed for the Italian Navy. To reduce overall length, it was proposed to place the boilers above the engines: in a "two-level" power plant. The anti-torpedo protection was also unique detonations would be directed to an expansion chamber overboard, from where the gases would be diverted through special channels. The project was ahead of its time, and it was never implemented.
Key Features of Ruggiero di Lauria:
- The ship has high speed, good armor and a low detectability range.
- Among the disadvantages: A high positioned citadel, low HP pool, and low manoeuvrability.
- Her equipment is represented by the improved "Repair Party", which restores 33% of the damage received to the citadel, as well as a choice between "Fighter" and "Spotting Aircraft".

Ship Naming Reasons
Ruggiero di Lauria (1250-1305)
Ruggiero di Lauria (1250-1305) was a famous Italian admiral who served the Crown of Aragon and Sicily in the 13th century. He fought against the French and the Angevins in the War of the Sicilian Vespers, winning several naval battles with his skill and courage. He was born in Lauria, in southern Italy, and died in Valencia, Spain. He is considered one of the greatest naval commanders of the Middle Ages.
His name was given to two Italian warships, the first one, launched in 1884 and stricken 1909, was the lead ship of the Ruggiero di Lauria class ironclad battleships, which had 4x 432 mm guns and a speed of 17 knots. The second one, under construction since 2019 planned to be commissioned 2025, is a multipurpose patrol ship that will serve in the Italian Navy. Both ships honor the legacy of this brave and loyal knight of the sea.
WG decided that their new Italian battleship is undoubtably worthy of this glorious knightly name.
Just a small correction. He served the Crown of Aragon. Not the Kingdom. The kingdom didn't had any ships. It's common to confuse this. But they are not the same thing.
