Halford - American Tier IX Hybrid Destroyer 1943
USS Halford, a Fletcher-class destroyer, received a catapult for a float plane in place of her aft torpedo mount and one of her main guns. This allowed the ship to launch a Kingfisher scout observation plane. During 1944, the ship provided fire cover for amphibious operations on the Solomon Islands, in New Guinea, and in the Philippines; she took part in battles in the Philippine Sea and in Leyte Gulf. The catapult turned out to not be operationally suitable for the intended purpose, and it was ultimately removed from Halford in 1944. In the course of the war, Halford was awarded 13 battle stars.

USS Halford Commemorative Flag
USS Halford was one of three U.S. destroyers equipped with a seaplane catapult. It was intended that the aircraft would conduct reconnaissance for destroyer divisions. The badge of U.S. Navy observer pilots was made in the form of golden wings with an anchor in the center, surrounded by the letter "O" ("Observer").
Key Features
Halford is the first hybrid destroyer in our game. She is armed with an attack aircraft tactical squadron. Due to the small size of the ship, the principle of launching a squadron will differ from other hybrids - only one aircraft will be launched from the catapult, which will be joined by the rest of the squadron, which is already in the air. The aircraft are armed with powerful Tiny Tim rockets with high damage and armor penetration.
Halford is equipped with four 127 mm main battery guns with a good rate of fire and arcing shell ballistics, as well as one five-tube torpedo launcher with long-range torpedoes. In addition, the ship has high maneuverability. Among her shortcomings: a small amount of HP and the absence of a Smoke Generator consumable. Halford’s consumables consist of Engine Boost or Defensive AA Fire to choose from in one slot.

I believe that introducing a hybrid DD is overkill and may make the passive gameplay even more passive. Instead of adding plane squadrons, I believe that incorporating a gimmick like the Tromp's airstrike or a plane-based ASW system would suffice to distinguish the ship.

ReplyDeleteI get what you mean, good point.
DeleteWill it be for sale in the armory ? Will it be coal, doubloon, steel ?
ReplyDeleteCC's get told about what resource it will go for about the same time they tell the player base, so, it could be any one of the 3 you mentioned.
Deleteplease give me a ship like this at tier 8 so I can use in operations
