Eighty-five years ago this March, one of the largest naval battles of the Mediterranean theater of World War II took place off the southern coast of Greece. The engagement served as proof of the vital importance of intelligence gathering and the radical changes in naval warfare.

While the Italian High Command relied on erroneous intelligence regarding the British fleet, the British intercepted Italian communications and utilized carrier-based aircraft to secure aerial superiority. The result was a crushing British victory, leading to the loss of three Italian heavy cruisers: sister ships Pola, Zara, and Fiume.

Recommended Tactics:

Fiume excels in artillery duels. Use your ballistics to punish enemies from a distance. The Burst Fire mode is lethal but increases reload time—use it only to finish targets or when you can safely disengage. Avoid open-water brawls due to high detectability and mediocre maneuverability; stay behind allies and provide support.
