Aragón - Tier IX Spanish Premium Cruiser 1943
Project 138 was part of the Spanish effort to design a new class of heavy cruisers following the end of the Spanish Civil War. This project had three variants that mostly differed in their main armament. The 138B variant was intended to carry 305 mm Vickers guns taken from the older España-class dreadnoughts and later used in shore batteries. Had the ship been built, her design could have been influenced by Italian naval practices due to the close ties between Italy and Francoist Spain.

Key Features and Battle Tips
Key Features
- Long firing range with large-caliber guns and good base reload for the caliber.
- Access to an alternative firing mode that drastically improves her accuracy and AP penetration capabilities, at the cost of a long reload.
- Low number of guns and unimpressive accuracy, using the Battlecruiser formula.
- Good base speed, but with bad concealment.
Battle Tips
Aragón combines the traditional Spanish alternative firing mode with high-caliber guns for cruisers. Use her standard firing mode to keep pressure on the opponent, and switch to her alternative mode to crush their broadsides!
Aragón plays as a "two-in-one" cruiser rather than sticking to a single role like most of her Tier peers. Her standard firing mode is designed for sustained damage. The fast reload of her six 305 mm guns allows her to pressure enemy ships with frequent HE salvos, starting fires and steadily wearing down battleships. Her AP remains effective against exposed broadsides, but the limited number of guns and battlecruiser dispersion make it unreliable. In this mode, Aragón plays much like a conventional damage-focused large cruiser, supporting her team from range with frequent salvoes.
Switch to Aragón’s alternative firing mode when you have an opportunity to punish an exposed broadside. In exchange for a longer reload, it significantly improves her AP penetration (to a battleship level) and accuracy, allowing her to land more consistent salvoes against cruisers and battleships. Look for flanking positions and crossfires that give you access to enemy sides, then use the enhanced salvoes to score citadel hits. It comes with its own trade-offs, though: with a caliber of 305mm, a target that angles quickly can still bounce your shells, and the longer reload gives the enemy more time to react between salvoes, so pick your firing mode carefully to suit the situation.
Aragón also carries torpedoes, but they should be considered as an auxiliary armament, as her lack of Hydroacoustic Search and poor concealment discourage close-range brawling.

IX Aragón & Pascual Cervera y Topete Synergy Guide
Maximizing the Tier IX Spanish Premium Cruiser with Spain's Unique Commander
Assigning Pascual Cervera y Topete to Aragón unlocks direct synergies with her heavy 305 mm guns, improves the uptime and cycle of her Alternative Firing Mode, and reinforces her survivability with passive heals and accelerated consumable cooldowns.
1. Enhanced Commander Skills Synergy
| Enhanced Skill | Commander Bonus | Impact on Aragón |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy AP Shells | +7.5% AP Shell Damage (Standard: +5%) |
Applies directly to Aragón's 305 mm guns. Increases base AP alpha from 8,200 up to 8,815 per shell, significantly boosting dev-strike potential in Alternative Firing Mode (+40% AP pen). |
| Demolition Expert | +1.5% HE Fire Chance (Standard: +1%) |
Increases Aragón's 305 mm HE fire chance from 27% to 28.5%. Combined with her fast standard reload (12.0s), it substantially increases sustained fire-setting pressure on angled battleships. |
| Swift Fish | +7% Torpedo Speed (Standard: +5%) |
Boosts the ship's 533 mm torpedoes from 62 knots to ~66.3 knots, increasing their hit reliability during defensive kiting or island ambushes. |
2. Unique Talents & Combat Performance
Trigger: Earn every 2 “Destroyed” and/or “Assisted in Destruction” ribbons.
- -2.5% Main Battery & Torpedo Reload per stack (up to -10% total).
- Aragón Synergy: Drops standard battery reload from 12.0s down to ~10.8s, and reduces the Alternative Firing Mode penalty from 28.0s down to ~25.2s, substantially accelerating burst cycles.
Trigger: Automatically activates the first time ship HP falls to 75%, 50%, and 25%.
- Passive Regeneration: Restores 300 HP per tier over 10s = +2,700 HP per trigger (up to +8,100 HP total free healing).
- Consumable Acceleration: Reduces Damage Control Party and Repair Party cooldowns by -3% (up to -9%), and Engine Boost / Spotter / Fighter by -6% (up to -18%).
- Aragón Synergy: Compensates for Aragón's 25 mm fore/aft armor and high detectability (14.7 km base) by dramatically improving sustain and mobility readiness during long-range kiting.
Key Takeaway for Aragón Captains
- Maximized AP Punches: Enhanced Heavy AP Shells combined with the Alternative Fire Mode gives Aragón battleship-tier alpha strikes against broadsides.
- Faster Burst Cycles: Stacking Resuelto cuts the heavy reload penalty of her alternative fire, keeping gun uptime high.
- Crucial Sustain: Free HP restoration and accelerated Repair Party and Engine Boost cooldowns from La Orden Será Cumplida allow Aragón to play aggressively from mid-to-long range.
