Current status of Aircraft Carriers changes and Closed Test of Tactical Consumables

WG Devs have worked on changes to Aircraft Carrier and AA mechanics for a while now to resolve the following systematic issues. Our main goals are to reduce spotting capabilities of planes and dispose of unintentional spotting; make AA defense more impactful at the time of its use; and keep aircraft carriers effective in battles.

Development Update: Aircraft Carrier Changes & New Features

Last updated: July 22, 2025 - After extensive internal and public testing, we're sharing our roadmap for aircraft carrier improvements and new tactical options.

Key Decisions & Timeline

Release Schedule Update: To ensure proper polish and balance, we've moved the full release to early 2026. However, some improvements will arrive sooner.
  • Current Focus (July-August 2025): Finalizing UI improvements, visual effects, bug fixes, and gameplay balance.
  • Major Testing Phases:
    • Closed Test: July 22-27, 2025 (new mechanics only)
    • Public Test: Early 2026 (full feature evaluation)
  • Live Server Rollout: Implemented in stages starting with Update 14.7 (August 2025)

Immediate Changes (Update 14.7 - August 2025)

These quality-of-life improvements will deploy first to enhance aerial combat:

  • Spotting Mechanics Overhaul:
    • Standardized plane detection to 10km (previously varied by plane type)
    • Reduced fire penalty (2km vs 3km aerial detection)
    • Removed main gun firing penalty for aerial spotting
  • Carrier Defenses:
    • Manual secondary battery control added
    • Improved fire resistance (now matches high-tier battleships)
    • Adjusted fire mechanics (longer duration but lower DPS)

New Tactical Consumables (Testing Phase)

These strategic tools will give carriers more battlefield influence when controlling aircraft:

1. Call Patrol Fighters

Activation: Signal rocket marks target area (3s preparation timer)

Effect: Fighter squadron patrols zone for 60s, engaging enemy planes

2. Call Smoke Curtain

Activation: Smoke signal marks deployment zone (5s preparation timer)

Effect: AI planes drop smoke bombs to create concealment

Key Difference: Unlike existing smoke mechanics, these tactical versions let you place effects remotely via map targeting.

New AA Defense System: Aimed Fire

Replacing Automatic AA, this manual system gives players more control over air defense:

  • Charge Mechanism:
    • Builds when enemy planes are in AA range
    • Faster charge when actively firing
  • Activation: Press V when charged for temporary damage boost
  • Replaces: Modified Defensive AA Fire consumable

  • July 22-27: Closed technical test of new mechanics
  • August: Update 14.7 deploys initial changes
  • Early 2026: Public test of complete package
