Buffs 'n' Nerfs to Commander Sansonetti and Test Ships Mainz, Gorizia, British Cruisers


Italian unique historical commander Luigi Sansonetti: *BUFF*

The "Scorched by Fury" talent is changed. It will be triggered upon obtaining the Confederate achievement rather than High Caliber, and will increase the reload speed from:  5% to 15%.

The trigger for the talent was changed because the High Calibre achievement was easier to get in Ranked Battles than in Random Battles (due to smaller size of teams in Ranked Battles). The Improved reload speed brings Sansonetti in balance with other unique commanders.

GORIZIA Tier VII Italian Cruiser: *BUFF*
* Reload time of Exhaust Smoke Generator is lowered from 240 (180) to 210 (140) s;
* Parameters of Hydroacoustic Search are changed:
** Action time increased from 100 to 120 s;
** Torpedo detection range increased from 3.5 to 4 km;
** Ship detection range increased from 5 to 6 km.

Changes to consumables will make Gorizia more interesting to play and will highlight her main difference to the researchable Italian cruisers - Hydroacoustic search, compensating the lack of torpedoes.

MAINZ Tier VIII German Cruiser: *BUFF*
* * Increased the armour thickness of main battery turrets:
** Frontal armour plate from 30 to 80 mm.
** Upper armour plate from 20 to 32 mm.
** Side armour plates from 20 to 35 mm.
The armour of this cruiser's turrets will become the same as that of Nürnberg. This will noticeably improve the survivability of her main calibre turrets.

* Air resistance coefficient was decreased for armour piercing and high explosive shells from    0.3307 to 0.29;
* Krupp value for armour piercing shells was increased from 1852 to 2300.
The changes to Mainz's shells will increase their flight speed (making shooting manoeuvring targets easier), and will increase penetration of armour piercing shells.

BEDFORD Tier VIII British Cruiser: *NERF*

* Main battery reload time increased from 11 to 12 s.

These changes are made as part of the initial balancing phase of the ships.

PUERTO RICO Tier X American Cruiser:
* Detectability range by sea reduced from 17.6 to 16.56 km.
* Detectability range by air reduced from 11.86 to 11.16 km.
* Detectability after firing main guns in smoke reduced from 14.27 to 13.15 km.

This change will help to increase the survivability of Puerto Rico in combat and will also bring the ship's visibility into line with her size.

TEST SHIP CHANGES:
PUERTO RICO Tier X American Cruiser:

- Sigma parameter was changed from 1.9 to 2.2 s

The test results have shown that the ship lacks sufficient accuracy of the main caliber guns for effective play.

- Bow and aft armor reduced from 27 to 25 mm

Mainz's bow and aft armor is reduced to better match the light cruiser type and to highlight the difference from the Admiral Hipper.

- Main battery reload time was reduced from 4.5 to 3.5 s

NIBI BIXIO Tier II Italian Cruiser:

We continue to tune the Italian cruisers: the reload time of these ships armaments has been changed to improve their balance. Detectability range by air of Taranto and Alberto Di Giussano was less than AA defense action zone, so it was increased.

Italian SHIPS:.
Ricochet angles are changed for semi-armor-piercing (SAP) shells:
  • - For 150 mm and 152 mm guns angles are changed from 80-85 to 65-80;
  • - For 203 mm guns angles are changed from 75-80 to 65-80.
Venezia maintains her ricochet angles of 75-80.

We continue to tune SAP shells to provide commanders an option for counterplay - these shells will ricochet more often at sharp angles.

The Italian cruisers’ detectability range by air is fixed:
  • - Eritrea, tier I: lowered from 7.12 to 5.12 km;
  • - Alberto di Giussano, tier IV: increased from 3.96 to 4.49 km;
  • - Raimondo Montecuccoli, tier V: lowered from 6.64 to 6.07 km;
  • - Genova, tier V: lowered from 11.1 to 8.28 km;
  • - Trento, tier VI: lowered from 7.86 to 5.31 km;
  • - Zara, tier VII: lowered from 7.52 to 6.98 km;
  • - Amalfi, tier VIII: lowered from 9.53 to 8.67 km;

Italian cruiser Trento, tier VI:
  • - Reload time of main caliber guns increased from 15 to 16 s.
Italian cruiser Zara, tier VII:
  • - Reload time of main caliber guns lowered from 15 to 14.5 s;
  • - Reload time of Exhaust Smoke Generator increased from 25 to 40 s
According to the test results, these ships needed additional balance changes.

POLTAVA TIER VIII SOVIET BATTLESHIP:
  • The ship is moved to tier VII and her parameters are updated to match the new tier:
  • Fire protection setting lowered;
  • Plating thickness lowered from 32 to 25 mm;
  • Superstructure armor thickness lowered from 19 to 16 mm;
  • Parameters of AA defense changed;
  • Reload time of main caliber guns is lowered from 30 to 28 s.
Despite all the strong features of the ship (low detection range, good armor and AA defense), the battleship was not strong enough for tier VIII.

DEVS, Italian Arc, Spectator Mode and Improved Mechanics World of Warships.

Devs: Italian Arc, Spectator Mode and Improved Mechanics.

Italian Arc:
Update 0.8.9 will start the Italian update cycle with early access to Italian cruisers.
Taranto port is added to the game.


There are 4 directives waiting for you, for the completion of which you will receive event containers and a new temporary resource "Italian Tokens".
From containers you can get combat missions for early access to Italian cruisers of tiers V — VIII.


You can exchange Italian tokens in the Armory for camouflages, signals, premium account, credits, event containers and random bundles.
The permanent “Grigio azzuro chiaro” camouflages with standard bonuses will be available for Italian tier V-VIII cruisers. Ships with this camouflage will be painted in light blue and gray — the standard palette of colors of ships of the Regia Marina in the early period of World War II.


New “Regia Marina” camouflage added, with the following bonuses:
  • -3% to detectability range;
  • +4% to maximum dispersion of shells fired by the enemy at your ship;
  • +100% XP per battle;
  • +50% Commander XP per battle;
  • +100% Free XP per battle.

Spectator Mode:
In the training room will be added an ability to go into battle without a ship as a spectator.
Spectators will be able to watch the battle in real time and switch between spectating one of the two teams or both of them.The color indication of the commands does not change when changing the observation side: one team will always be green and the other will always be red.

Spectators do not have access to battle chat, quick commands and cannot leave marks on the minimap, but they can be attached to ships, planes and shells like a camera after the destruction of a ship. On the post-battle statistics screen, spectators will have access to information about the composition of the teams and which team won the battle. Up to 20 spectators can be present in one battle.

Improved Mechanics:
Participants in the upcoming Super test session will be able to try out a number of technical improvements, as well as a new spectator mode:

Visibility System:

According to numerous requests of players, the penalty to the visibility of the ship after firing, is now lifted 2 seconds after leaving the visibility of the enemy. Now the visibility system will work the same way as for a few updates before version 0.8.0.
Added guaranteed detection time: if a ship was detected by the enemy, it will be visible to the enemy for at least 3 seconds. This change will help to prevent an enemy ship from flickering when it appears and disappears on the map at a high frequency at the edge of the enemy team’s detection range.

New group of Ships:

Unresearchable ships, which do not have increased earning of credits, will be merged into a new group. It will also include rentals, temporary ships and ships in early access. In this way, players can easily differentiate between premium ships with higher earnings and other types of unresearchable ships.

Displaying of Camouflages:

If the player has disabled the display of special camouflages, then in battle instead the permanent ship’s camouflage will be displayed, and in case of its absence the consumable camouflage “Type 5”. Previously, ships were displayed without camouflage, even if they were installed on them. Because of this, it was possible to conclude that the enemy or ally did not have a camouflage bonus.

DEVS: New German Ships Odin and Mainz, New German and Italian Commanders Added to World of Warships

Devs: New German Ships & Commanders Added

Gamescom is taking place today, and we would like all the information about World of Warships from this event to be available to you in a convenient way. We are announcing new ships, unique historical commanders and the Halloween event. Have a pleasant reading and remember that plans can change.


ODIN Tier VIII German Battleship.

She has 3 turrets with 3 x 305 mm guns in each of them, 2x4 torpedo tubes and 320 mm armour belt.

Odin was one of the prototypes of the Scharnhorst class battleship. She was supposed to counter the French battleships — Dunkerque and Strasbourg. Guns with a calibre of at least 305 mm were required to fight them, but in reality their development was delayed, and it was decided to use 283 mm guns with a possibility of further rearmament with 380 mm guns. By lowering the displacement to meet the limitations and using the same dimensions as Scharnhorst, it was possible to increase the main calibre and to achieve good operational range — a good combination for actions against the enemy’s communication lines.

In game, a relatively quick reload but without the largest calibre for a battleship, dictate the primary task for this ship — fighting against cruisers. At the same time, Odin’s armour, despite being not bad, is still inferior to more classical battleships such as Tirpitz.


MAINZ Tier VIII German Cruiser.

She is armed with 12 x 150 mm guns in 4 turrets and 4x4 torpedo tubes. The thickness of the armour belt is 80 mm.

Mainz is the original version of the Seydlitz and Lützow cruisers (Admiral Hipper class) as they were planned in the June of 1936. After deciding to equip Admiral Hipper, Blücher and Prinz Eugen with 203 mm guns, it was planned to build two more cruisers of this type, armed with 12x150 mm guns. But the decision was changed and Seydlitz and Lützow were to get the same guns as other ships of this class.

In game, Mainz will have good range and relatively good survivability for a ship armed with 150 mm guns, familiar to players of Nürnberg and Königsberg.

Günther Lütjens
Kriegsmarine admiral. During World War 2 was commanding the successful Scharnhorst and Gneisenau raid in Atlantic, was leading the operation of the legendary Bismarck. Went down with his ship in May of 1941 fighting the British Royal Navy.


Luigi Sansonetti 
Admiral of the Regia Marina, later — of the Italian Navy. During World War 2 was commanding a cruiser division and participated in several important battles in the Mediterranean. Later, was one of the key naval staff officers.


Every autumn we hold a Halloween dedicated event, and it always gets positive feedback from players. This year won’t be an exception: the story of the fictional world will continue to evolve. Players will enjoy both the familiar operations and a new game mode, where they can fight each other. The event traditionally includes new mechanics, which we will present later.

British Tier X Battleship Thunderer:
  • Main battery guns reload time lowered from 30 to 26 s;
  • Sigma lowered from 2.0 to 1.9;
  • Lowered the size of the dispersion ellipse.
Thunderer has a relatively weak armour scheme and not the best Repair party, her main strength is her guns. But testing showed that they were not efficient enough

American Tier X Battleship Ohio:
  • Main battery guns reload time increased from 26 to 30 s;
  • Sigma increased from 1.9 to 2.0;
  • Increased the size of the dispersion ellipse;
  • Amount of hit points restored per second by Repair party is lowered from 0.66% to 0.5% of maximum hit points.
Thanks to effective secondaries and good guns, Ohio was too effective at all distances. The guns parameters were changed to keep the ship strong in close and medium range, but lowering the overall efficiency. Moreover, Repair party had too big of an impact on the overall survivability of the ship.

Italian Researchable Cruisers:
  • Removed the damage limit of semi-armor-piercing for shells of caliber of 283 mm and lower against destroyers;
  • Improved ricochet angles of semi-armor-piercing shells from 60-85 to 80-85;
Changed the basic firing range of main caliber guns:
  • - Taranto, tier III: increased from 9.6 to 10.34 km;
  • - Alberto di Guissano, tier IV: lowered from 14.14 to 13.51 km;
  • - Trento, tier VI: lowered from 15.37 to 14.65 km;
  • - Zara, tier VII: increased from 14.32 to 14.65 km;
  • - Amalfi, tier VIII: increased from 13.95 to 14.68 km;
  • - Brindisi, tier IX: increased from 15.21 to 15.57 km.
  • Venezia, tier X: improved firing angles for the second turret by 19 degrees to both sides.
Semi-armour-piercing shells are an intermediate between AP and HE shells: AP deals good damage when hitting citadel, HE does stable but relatively low damage and can causes fires. SAP shells should deal good stable non-citadel damage, but due to the ricochet angles they were not effective. Also, due to the limit on damage against destroyers, this cruisers were weak against this class, so the limit was removed.

Researchable French destroyers of tiers II - X, French tier V destroyer Siroco, French tier VIII destroyer Le Terrible:
  • The possibility of incapacitating the engine and steering gears is lowered.
Due to the large size of the modules of French destroyers they were incapacitated too often when the destroyer was hit.

Tier II French Destroyer Enseigne Gabolde:
  • Main caliber guns reload time lowered from 6 to 4.8 s;
  • Torpedo tubes reload time lowered from 57 to 35 s;
  • Maximum torpedo damage lowered from 12 233 to 7 433;
  • Torpedo range increased from 6 to 7 km.

Tier III French Destroyer Fusilier:
Hull A:
  • Torpedo tubes reload time lowered from 57 to 35 s;
  • Maximum torpedo damage lowered from 12 233 to 7 433;
  • Torpedo range increased from 6 to 7 km.
Hull B:
  • Torpedo tubes reload time lowered from 90 to 52 s;
  • Maximum torpedo damage lowered from 12 233 to 7 433;
  • Torpedo range increased from 6 to 7.5 km.


Tier IV French Destroyer Bourrasque:
  • Torpedo tubes reload time lowered from 90 to 75 s;
  • Maximum torpedo damage lowered from 14 833 to 11 267;
  • Torpedo range lowered from 9 to 7.5 km;
  • Torpedo speed lowered from 60 to 57 knots.

Tier V French Destroyer Jaguar:
  • Torpedo range lowered from 9 to 8 km;
  • Torpedo speed increased from 60 to 68 knots.

Tier VI French Destroyer Guepard:
  • Torpedo range lowered from 9 to 8 km;
  • Torpedo speed increased from 60 to 68 knots.
With the increasing of tiers, the torpedoes of the French destroyers didn't make sense in their progression: their parameters were changing from tier to tier, but they didn't fit the unified system. Changes will bring the torpedoes of these ships in line with the following concept - torpedo range is slightly higher than the detection range of French destroyers, they have good speed and medium damage.

ST: Bayard, Friesland, Siegfried, Somers, Ark Royal, Yudachi, Balance Changes World of Warships

"Friesland" Tier X Dutch (European) Destroyer:
  • Turrets can rotate 360 degrees;
  • Turret firing angles increased: bow turret by 1 degree, stern turret by 5 degrees to both sides;
  • AA damage bonus granted by the Defensive AA Fire consumable lowered from +200% to +100%.
Changes to turret rotation and firing angles will make playing the European destroyer more comfortable.
Friesland has good AA defence for her class, allowing her to take down large numbers of planes, but the Defensive AA Fire consumable made the destroyer too effective against aircraft.

"Siegfried" Tier IX German Cruiser:
  • Number of charges for the Repair Party consumable lowered from 3 to 2;
  • Torpedo range lowered from 8 to 6 km.
Parameters of the Repair party consumables were aligned with the standard values for cruisers, and torpedo range was aligned with the values of high-tier German cruisers and battleships.

"Yudachi" Tier VII Japanese Destroyer:
  • Torpedo tubes reload time increased from 91 to 100 s.
After the addition of the Torpedo Reload Booster consumable the total torpedo damage dealt by the destroyer was too great.

"Somers" Tier X American Destroyer:
  • Main caliber guns reload time increased from 5 to 6 seconds.
The efficiency of the main caliber guns was too great for the torpedo-focused destroyer.

"Ark Royal" Tier VI British Carrier:
  • Torpedo bombers squadron size increased from 6 to 9 planes;
  • Number of torpedo bombers on deck increased from 9 to 14;
  • Torpedo bombers restoration time decreased from 81 to 59 s;
  • Armor penetration of HE bombs increased from 18 to 19 mm;
  • Number of bombs on the plane is lowered from 12 to 8.
Considering the speed of the planes, the size of torpedo bombers squadron was too small for the tier VI aircraft carrier. Increased armor penetration will allow bombs to penetrate the superstructure of tier VIII battleships, and lower number of bombs per plane will lower the efficiency of the aircraft carrier primarily against destroyers. This will be compensated by the increased size of the torpedo bombers squadron due to the increased damage dealt to battleships and cruisers.

"Bayard" Tier VIII French Cruiser:
  • Detectability range by air is increased from 6.36 to 7.16 km
When using skills and upgrades for lowering detection range, the AA gun range of the ship was larger than the detection range by air. This allowed Bayard to turn the AA off and activate it when enemy planes are already inside the AA zone.

Tier V French Premium Destroyer "Siroco"
  • Detectability range by air is lowered from 3.36 km to 2.7 km;
Main Battery Reload Booster and Engine Boost consumables are changed place. Now, Siroco's consumables are arranged in the same order as the researchable French destroyers.

Tier VIII French Premium Cruiser "Bayard"
  • Increased fore and aft end plating from 13 to 16 mm;
  • Firing Range of the main battery was reduced from 17.4 to 16.4 km.
Due to the successful combination of combat characteristics, Bayard showed good combat effectiveness and was a very hard-to-hit target for enemy ships. Her reduced range will move the cruiser closer to the enemy and make combat actions against Bayard more effective.

The increase in the plating's thickness will allow her to bounce the shells from guns of up to 220 mm caliber. This change will be especially noticeable at medium and close ranges.

French Destroyer Tier VII "Vauquelin"
  • Maximum torpedo damage lowered from 18 400 to 14 833;
  • Main calibre guns reload time increased from 4.8 to 5 s.
    Recent changes significantly increased Vauquelin's torpedo efficiency: the destroyer started to deal almost the same amount of damage with them as with main calibre guns. To balance the total damage done by the ship, the damage of torpedoes was lowered and the reload time of main calibre guns was increased.

    French Destroyer Tier VI "Guepard"
