A project that evolved from the Conte di Cavour-class battleships, equipped with a reinforced secondary battery. In the 1930s, the ship received a significant upgrade when her anti-torpedo protection was reinforced, her speed was increased, and her main and secondary battery guns were made more powerful.

Historical Facts.
Andrea Doria was laid down in March 1912, launched in March 1913, and completed in March 1916. She was armed with a main battery of 13 x 305 mm guns and had a top speed of 21 knots.
Andrea Doria was heavily rebuilt during 1937–1940, her speed was increased to 26 kn. The ship's amidships turret was removed and the remaining guns were bored out to 320 mm.
